Boreholes
The provision of clean drinking water is one of the most essential requirements that we all share as human beings. However, although most of us in the UK may take this basic provision for granted, there are millions of families in other countries who do not have access to clean drinking water. We understand that during years of drought, women in Malawi may have to walk for six hours to find water. Furthermore, this source of water may be contaminated because people wash themselves and their clothing in rivers and animals also drink there as well. Further pollution is caused by excrement being washed into the rivers from open ground.
The provision of clean drinking water will significantly reduce the large number of deaths which are caused by diarrhea in developing countries. Children are especially vulnerable, and many have no alternative to drinking water which can kill them. I read one report which stated that 5,000 children die every day from drinking dirty water.
To date we have provided funds for 94 boreholes.
